POSH PICKS | The Closet Cleanse ... Ways to get you spring wardrobe in shape

THE CLOSET CLEANSE

With the Spring and Summer months amongst us, everyone is discussing the fastest ways to get fit so we can confidently wear the "not so covering", clothing we prefer in the warmer weather. Cleansing, which is the diet tip that has been all the rage this season, is the process of using some natural or some unnatural ingredients to get rid of all the toxins in your body. Well what about all the toxins in your wardrobe? No use in working on this amazing body if you are going to decorate it with unstylish clothing.  A good Spring cleaning is always a great way to start the season a great way to kick off the season because a clean environment is simply more comfortable and refreshing. In the winter we tend to accumulate all this un-needed stuff that can feel like dead weight in the summer when you want to be able to grab your essentials and just go. But most people don't apply this tactic to their closets.

It has been proven that having an organized clothing space not only makes getting dressed easier but results in you looking better. That's because you've edited out all the things you shouldn't be wearing in the first place.

So would you like to take on the closet cleanse challenge??? Just follow the King of Posh Styling recipe and we'll have that closet looking right in no time.

Ingredients

- Bins or boxes
- Broom
- Cleaning supplies
- Necessary Amount of Matching Hangers
- Storage units
- Trash Bags
- AN OPEN MIND

Directions

Step 1: CUT IT DOWN

WINTER WEAR

Pack up all of your winter clothing into boxes or bins and move it into a storage area in your home. This could be in an attic, garage, under the bed, or another closet. If you have to keep some things in your wardrobe closet make sure it is a very small amount and it is kept together in either the far left or far right of the closet.

CLOTHES VS CLOTHING

I'm sure there is a lot clothes in your closet that you don't wear for various reasons. Why are you still holding on to it? Do you think the denim capris you loved in fifth grade are coming back in style some time soon...because they're not. SO THROW THEM OUT. If it is too small, too big, too long, too short, damaged, not really your style or severely out of style, LET IT GO. If they can be of use to someone else pack it up for younger relatives or a clothing drive. Anything useless put in your trash bags. Trust me this step will save you from going out side looking anything but your very best. You should never be able to say "I''ll just throw this on today" All of the clothing in your closet should be selected to fit your personal shape and taste. Don't sell yourself short... Even on a relaxed day. You'll feel more confident when you choose well selected clothing over some random clothes.

Step 2 : SHAKE IT AROUND

Now that you've gotten rid of all the things you know won't contribute to looking fashion forward this Spring it is time to properly organize what you decided to keep.

HANG

Hang everything that is made of delicate fabrics and could be horribly wrinkled in a drawer. This includes:

Blouses
Button Downs
Blazers / Jackets
Dresses
Skirts
Slacks

To make your closet easier to navigate coordinate each section by type, and then by color. For example, hang all blouses together and place them from lightest to darkest in shade. When you're getting dressed and looking for a blue button down you won't panic because they are all in the same place.

FOLD

Fold everything that may easily fall of a hanger or is wrinkle free.

Cotton Tees or Long Sleeve Tops
Jeans
Sweaters / Hoodies
Under garments

Assign a specific clothing type to each drawer. That means no socks in the tee shirt drawer. Make sure you are keeping your drawers neat by folding everything you place into them.

STORE

Those miscellaneous items that always seem to clutter the bottom of your closet floor can be easily organized in your closet by adapting storage units. These can be found at all price points so there is no excuse. Try a bag and shoe rack for walls and bottom of your closet. Add bins for the smaller things such as hats, scarves, and belts.  During this process you may find your closet is not Spring fresh so sweep up and wipe down if necessary.

STEP 3: THE NEW YOU

SHOP

This is my favorite part. Now that you've done all this hard and tedious work you can reward your self with some new clothing. But remember you don't want to be in this same spot next fall so choose wisely

GAIN INSPIRATION

What look do you want to accomplish this season?  Take a look at your favorite celebs, fashion magazines and style blogs to gain some inspiration for your look. What's trending? What's classic? Here is a link to my spring forecast write up for some ideas. When you decide on a look it should be a combination of what FITS and LOOKS best on YOU. Everything you like may not be right! Be honest with yourself and finally commit to whatever it is you want your wardrobe to say about you. Your look will always remain consistent if you commit.

MAKE A LIST

Have you ever left the store with a lot of stuff but when you got home you realized nothing went together or with what you already had? That's because you didn't know what you were shopping for in the first place. After you decide on a style make a list of the things your wardrobe is lacking and the budget you can live with to make updating it happen.

SHOP

Get the essentials and don't forget to add in a few statement pieces to make your looks pop. Keep in mind your lifestyle and if what you are buying is suitable for maybe hanging out with friends, work, school, etc.  You don't have to purchase everything at once. Build as time goes by. If you are not sure about it, don't get. If you don't love it, definitely don't get it.

Now you can come home and add your great finds into your new and improved wardrobe.
